Location
The beautiful villa commands a landscape made of vineyards and olive groves in Grosseto countryside, in Maremma, just a few kilometres from Porto Santo Stefano.
Porto Santo Stefano is a seaside resort of southern Tuscany situated on the promontory of Argentario. After having been an important harbour at the times of the Etruscan, between the early 15th and the mid-16th century the port that once the Roman called Portus Traianus or Portus ad Cetarias lost its relevance. It is at that time that a series of tower were built along the coast to defend the area from the frequent pirate attacks.
The famous Spanish fortress, which has now been transformed into a museum that hosts art exhibitions, was built between the late 16th and the early 17th century, when Porto Santo Stefano became part of the State of Presidi.
The Austrian conquered Porto Santo Stefano in 1707, then the town became part of the Kingdom of Etruria. In 1815 it was annexed to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and in 1860 became part of the Kingdom of Italy.
At present, Porto Santo Stefano is a renowned tourist port and a celebrated seaside resort rewarded with the Blue Flag, an eco-label awarded to European beaches and marinas that meet particular quality requirements.
