Location

The castle is in the province of Siena, at the border between Valdichiana and Val d'Orcia, just a few kilometres from Chianciano Terme.

Chianciano is one the most famous thermal towns in Italy. The curative properties of its waters have been known since Etruscan and Roman times. The Etruscans founded a village under the rule of the important town of Chiusi. Many archaeological finds have been unearthed in the area, dating back to the period between the Bronze and Iron Ages and the 5th century BC. The Etruscan village was in strategic position, along the road that connected the coast to internal Etruria. During the Hellenistic period, a series of sanctuaries dedicated to the deities of the waters were built, the most famous being the one called "dei Fucoli".
Following the decline of the Etruscan civilisation, the Romans conquered the territory of Chianciano. It was the Romans who built the thermal settlement of Mezzomiglio, which the archaeologists who discover it think to correspond to the thermal baths mentioned by the Latin poet Quinto Orazio Flacco.


Description

The castle was founded by a soldier of venture around 1465; in the course of the centuries several other buildings were erected around the central nucleus, and the complex assumed its actual form in the 19th century. Nowadays the castle is part of a large farm producing olive oil and wine. The rented part corresponds to the central and most ancient nucleus of the complex.

A wide Italian garden stretches around the imposing building in travertine and red bricks; the same garden is surrounded by the olive groves and vineyards of the farm. In the garden are two fenced swimming pools: one (8x4 m; depth: 1.40 m) is exclusively reserved to the guests of the castle, whereas the other (10x20 m; depth: 1.50 m) is to be shared with the other guests of the farm. Both swimming pools are equipped with sun loungers and deck chairs.
The barbecue equipment and a table are at guests' disposal for having meals in the open air.
The castle features also a balcony overlooking the beautiful internal courtyard and the garden, and is an excellent location for celebrating weddings and special occasions.

Chianciano Terme and its thermal baths are a few kilometres from the estate, whereas Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza, Arezzo, Siena and many other Tuscan cities of art are within short driving distance. In proximity to the castle is also Lake of Chiusi natural protected area. A riding stable, some tennis courts and a golf club are a few kilometres from the property.


Accommodation

The two-storey building, whose rooms are decorated in the traditional Sienese style, can accommodate 12+2 guests in 3 double bedrooms, 2 single bedrooms, 2 twin bedrooms and 2 supplementary single beds, and has 4 bathrooms and 1 half bathroom.

The ground floor composes of kitchen, dining room, living room, a double bedroom, a single bedroom, a twin bedroom, a bathroom and a half bathroom.
On the first floor are a second living room, a twin bedroom, a single bedroom, two double bedrooms (one with an ensuite bathroom) and two more bathrooms.

Two supplementary single beds are supplied upon request.
