Among Wine Pici and Pecorino Cheese
We have already spoken of the many Sienese culinary specialities, as well as we have already said that having holidays in Tuscany means, among other things, spending some days in one of the most appreciated
terroirs in the world. However, if instead of renting an apartment or a villa in Siena historic centre, you would like to stay in a picturesque Tuscan farmhouse or in one of the well renowned holiday farms just outside Siena... an
excursion among wine, pici and pecorino cheese is a must!
What is it? It is a one-day excursion to Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano.
The first stop of your excursion may be
Montalcino, about 40 kilometres south of Siena. On approaching the land of Brunello, you will see the silhouette of the Rocca that dominates the town. Just a piece of advice: we have already written about the Brunello wine, but not about the
Brunello ice cream. Really excellent!
The second stop is
Pienza, a town with a particular history: once called Corsignano, it owes its present form to Pope Pius II, who wanted to transform it into the ideal town. While in Pienza, look for a grocery or a dairy and buy some
pecorino cheese.
And then you have
Montepulciano, whose celebrity has increased since it was the setting of one of the Twilight-saga films. There you can taste a
dish of pici - a sort of hand-made spaghetti - with a wild game, chianina or aglione sauce.
In short, you will the opportunity of visiting plenty of picturesque villages during your unforgettable holidays in Siena!
