The Parco Naturale di Migliarino - San Rossore - Massaciuccoli in Pisa

If you leave your apartment or villa in Pisa and drive for some kilometres towards the coast, you will reach the Parco Naturale di Migliarino - San Rossore - Massaciuccoli.

Created in December 1979, the park covers an area of more 14,000 hectares, from the southern outskirts of Viareggio to northern Livorno.

A unique panorama will appear before the tourists who visit the park for the first time: sandy dunes and cultivated fields, swamps and Mediterranean maquis, sandy shores and ponds. This magnificent mix of landscapes is the result of the combined action of the forces of nature and human work. Several nature trails have been created in the park.

A mountain-bike or a horseback ride along the trails (if you prefer, you can also visit the park by carriage) will be a unique and unforgettable experience.

We suggest you to visit:
  • the Lake Massaciuccoli. The composer Giacomo Puccini loved to hunt there; you can also visit it by boat;

  • the estate of San Rossore. The Medicis, the Savoys and the presidents of the Italian Republic lived there before the Regione Toscana acquired it;

  • Migliarino maquis, with its century-old pinewood, where you can gather the pine nuts for the "torta co` bischeri";

  • Coltano estate, with the homonymous Medicean villa built in the late 16th century, so similar to the Villa di Camugliano, another villa in the province of Pisa built by order of the Medici family.
