How to Get to Florence
After having chosen your holiday villa in Florence and before packing your luggage, it is time to choose the better way to get to the city of Dante.
If you are travelling by
car, remember that along the A1 motorway there are five exits next to Florence: Firenze Sud; Firenze Certosa; Firenze Scandicci; Firenze Nord and Calenzano Sesto Fiorentino. And do not forget that the A11 motorway ends in western Florence. Obviously, your choice will depend on the area of Florence in which your holiday accommodation is situated. The same is valid for the expressways Firenze-Pisa-Livorno and Firenze-Siena.
Do you prefer travelling by
train? Santa Maria Novella railway station is along the high speed line from northern to southern Italy. Situated in Florence historic centre, it is served by many bus lines and is a taxi station. That is why the Florentine holiday apartments in proximity to the railway station are always the tourists` first choice.
If you are getting to Florence with the plane, you can choose to land at
Amerigo Vespucci airport - which is situated in Peretola, about 15 minutes from Florence centre - or at Galileo Galilei airport in Pisa.
Moreover, since February 2010, in Florence has been operating the
T1 tram line, which connects Santa Maria Novella railway station to Scandicci. In the future, the line will probably be extended and new lines will be open.
